Frequently Asked Questions
:: What is Trex?
Trex is a mixture of raw materials combined together to make an attractive, low maintenance deck board. Trex deck board is 95% recycled - 50% of this is wood waste and 50% is recycled plastic bags
:: Why would a customer be interested in Trex decking?
Trex decking will not rot, warp, split, fade or stain. It is also resistant to mould. A sporadic wash is all it needs to remain in tip-top condition
:: Do Trex offer any guarantees?
Trex offer a 25 year residential & 10 year commercial warranty for their products. The Trex warranty even covers against fading & staining on the deck board. Please contact AFP for full details
:: Isn’t Trex expensive compared to softwood decking?
Trex is more expensive than wooden decking - around 4.5 times more expensive compared to softwood on a piece by piece comparison or around 3 times more expensive if you have it professionally installed. However we believe there is a position in the market for a low-maintenance, high quality composite deck board and all the advantages it brings. Especially for high end residential & commercial projects where low maintenance is desirable
:: How can I buy Trex?
Arbor Forest Products will sell to the trade in deck size quantities - there are no set pack sizes. You could even have 1 piece delivered free of charge if it comes with a standard timber delivery - ideal if your customer doesn’t order enough product the first time around
:: How do you install Trex?
Trex is very easy to install and works just like timber decking. Trex cuts with the same tools too. You can also use a timber sub-frame - 400mm joist centres for a residential deck and 300mm centres for a commercial deck. We also offer Trex deck board with a secret fixing system so you won’t see any screws through the surface of the board. Simply use the secret fixing clip and screw it into each joist
:: Do I need to leave gaps between each board?
Employ a 6-10mm gap between each board. The secret fixing system automatically employs a 6mm gap for you. Between the ends of each board use a 3-5mm gap and when abutting other objects such as a wall 6-10mm
:: How can I curve Trex deck board?
Trex deck board can be curved for a fantastic, unique appearance. Curving Trex does require skill; Trex deck board has to be heated to between 85 and 104 degrees and so we advise using a professional installer where possible. Contact AFP for further details
:: Can you recommend a professional installer?
We can recommend high quality installers - please contact AFP for details
:: Do you supply to the end-user directly?
AFP will only sell Trex to our trade customers
